Hi, I’m Juliana!
There’s a common misconception that children don’t have much to stress about, and therefore don’t have complex emotions. However, young people can have BIG feelings!
Whether it be anxiety about the future, self esteem, difficulties socializing and managing conflict with peers, or frustrations in the home and school setting, these stressors can be overwhelming for kids and teens!
I specialize in working with children and adolescents who are struggling with social anxiety, confidence levels, meltdowns at school/ home, or anxiety surrounding change.
My job is to help my clients identify these feelings and determine what purpose they are serving, so that we can work together to manage them, problem solve through them, and communicate them more efficiently with others.
For kids, I utilize play therapy which creates a safe space. This allows me to bond with your child to help them find the tools to work through their struggles.
For teens, I help them identify triggers and develop skills such as conflict resolution and assertiveness training.
For all clients, I focus on building confidence and learning healthy coping skills. Your child or teen will also feel supported in the school environment, as it is my job to advocate for them and participate in team meetings if needed.
For parents and families, I offer regular parent or family sessions so that we can stay in the loop and discuss your child’s progress, and also improve communication between family members.
A bit more about my experience and approach:
I earned my Master of Science in Clinical & Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College and received clinical experience within the Child and Adolescent track.
After receiving my masters, I have spent the last 5 years working with Amel Counseling and accumulating hours for my Pennsylvania Licensure (LPC). I now have 7 years of experience working with kids, teens, and families and am a fully Licensed Professional Counselor.
My approach is eclectic, flexible, and client-centered. In therapy, I mainly operate from the strengths-based approach. I also utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for older kids and teens to help them understand how thoughts and feelings can affect their behaviors. To dig a bit deeper into how the family system operates, I pull from the psychodynamic approach when providing family therapy.
With the focus primarily on your child’s and your family’s greatest strengths and positive attributes, your kid or teen can feel empowered in their ability to achieve their goals. This is important to instill a sense of hope in your child, which truly is what Amel Counseling is all about!
Hope is an essential ingredient to motivate the client to be active in treatment!
